A Casper woman has been indicted for allegedly setting fire to an abortion clinic in the same city, almost one year to the day after the crime was committed.

Lorna Roxanne Green was indicted by a grand jury, which found that she “maliciously damaged and destroyed, and attempted to damage and destroy, by means of fire a building…which building, contents and property were used in affecting interstate commerce and were used in activities affecting interstate commerce,” according to the May 19 indictment.

Hours after a Wyoming judge on Wednesday temporarily blocked the state’s newly-enacted total abortion ban from being enforced, federal authorities announced that a Casper woman had been arrested and charged with the May 2022 arson of a would-be abortion clinic.

Wyoming has become the latest U.S. state to outlaw abortions, as Gov. Mark Gordon on Friday signed one measure banning medications used to terminate pregnancies, and enabled another measure criminalizing most abortions in the state to take effect without his signature.

By signing Senate File 109 into law, Wyoming is the first state in the nation to explicitly ban medications that terminate pregnancy, the most prevalent abortion method today. Beginning in July, the prescription, sale or distribution of medications used “for the purpose of procuring or performing an abortion on any person” will be criminalized.

On the penultimate day of the 2023 legislative general session, Wyoming lawmakers approved two new measures to further limit access to abortion in the latest development in the ongoing debate over reproductive care in the Equality State.
