LARAMIE, Wyo.—When the No. 22 New Mexico Lobos (13-0) came to town, not many had hope that the Wyoming Cowboys would stand a chance against the unbeaten squad. The Cowboys entered the game on a three-game losing streak, including dropping their conference opener against Fresno State on Wednesday. WYOMING BASKETBALL: Cardiac Cowboys’ Comeback Falls Short in Conference Opener  

FRESNO, Calif.— The University of Wyoming began Mountain West Conference (MWC) play with a 5-7 record when the team faced the Fresno State Bulldogs on Wednesday. For the 2021-22 season, the Cowboys only lost seven games in the entire regular season, so they arrived in California with something to prove against a team that had an even worse record, 4-7.

WYOMING BASKETBALL: Four Straight Losses Give UW One of the Worst Records in the Mountain West Conference

The Wyoming Cowboys men’s basketball team has had a rough start to the season. After losing star players to injuries, the team has now dropped four straight games, falling below .500 and not looking like a team projected to compete for a conference title. Following the Paradise Jam tournament, the Cowboys played a neutral-site game against Santa Clara University, and three weeks later, hosted Grand Canyon University in Laramie. Nearly all of these games failed to go Wyoming’s way.
