LARAMIE, Wyo.— The beaten and battered Wyoming Cowboys could not right the ship against the San Diego State Aztecs Saturday, losing the game 80-75. The Aztecs arrived in Laramie 11-3 on the season and 2-0 in the conference—the preseason favorite to win the Mountain West Conference (MWC).

FRESNO, Calif.— The University of Wyoming began Mountain West Conference (MWC) play with a 5-7 record when the team faced the Fresno State Bulldogs on Wednesday. For the 2021-22 season, the Cowboys only lost seven games in the entire regular season, so they arrived in California with something to prove against a team that had an even worse record, 4-7.

The Wyoming Cowboys men’s basketball team has had a rough start to the season. After losing star players to injuries, the team has now dropped four straight games, falling below .500 and not looking like a team projected to compete for a conference title. Following the Paradise Jam tournament, the Cowboys played a neutral-site game against Santa Clara University, and three weeks later, hosted Grand Canyon University in Laramie. Nearly all of these games failed to go Wyoming’s way.
